Right out of the box, the assembly process is straightforward. The frame is made of sturdy aluminum, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. It takes about 30–40 minutes to put everything together. The pre-assembled laser module and rail system helped speed up the process.

The SCULPFUN S9 is compatible with LightBurn and LaserGRBL, which is a huge plus. Setting up the machine is relatively simple—just had to install the drivers and configure the engraving area.

Focusing the laser is manual but easy, thanks to the sliding adjustment system. One thing to note is that you’ll need to adjust the focus each time you switch material thickness, but this is expected with most diode lasers in this price range.

This engraver really shines when it comes to engraving quality. The 0.06mm laser beam allows for sharp, detailed engravings, even on small text and intricate designs. When tested on wood, leather, and anodized aluminum, the results were consistently crisp.

Cutting performance is good but benefits from multiple passes. It handles 3mm plywood in one pass, but for thicker materials like 10mm acrylic or 15mm wood, you’ll need 2–3 passes.

The build quality is solid, with a stable aluminum frame that minimizes vibrations. The laser shield is a great addition to reduce eye strain, but we recommend that you use safety glasses for extra protection.

There’s no built-in enclosure, so you’ll need proper ventilation if engraving indoors. Also, an emergency stop button is included, which is great for safety.
